What is internalisation
Deepest level of conformity and when the belief or behaviour of the majority is accepted by the individual. This is the most permanent form of conformity. Linked with informational social influence
What is compliance
Compliance is when an individual changes their behaviour to fit in with the group. They may not agree with their belief/ behaviour privately but go along publicly. It is likely to be linked to NSI and only lasts when there are group pressures to conform to that are present
What is normative social influence
This is when someone confirms because they want to be liked or fit in with the group. They may change their views/behaviours publicly but privately disagree. This is linked with compliance
What is informational social influence
This is when someone conforms because they lack knowledge and have a desire to be right. And generally look to the majority as they think they know what there doing. This is linked to internalisation
What is identification
when someone conforms to the opinions/behaviour of a group because there is something about the group which they value.There is a public change to accepting the groups norm even though their private attitudes may differ.
