Types of bone fractures/repair Flashcards
1
Q
What is a open fracture?
A
Broken ends of bone protrude skin
2
Q
What is a comminuted fracture?
A
bone at the site of fracture broken into multiple parts
3
Q
What is a greenstick fracture?
A
Partial fracture on one side of the bone
4
Q
What is an impacted fracture?
A
one end of bone is broken by another end being forcefully driven into it
5
Q
What adverse affects can occur from an epiphyseal plate fracture?
A
May affect the ability for chondrocytes to undergo cell division, impacting the growth of the bone
May affect the closer of the epiphyseal plate
6
Q
Explain the four steps of fracture repair
A
- Blood hematoma forms around fracture
- Fibrocartilaginous callus forms bridging broken bone ends
3.Osteoblasts produce trabeculae
- Compact bone replaces spongy bone, osteoblast and osteocytes undertake bone remodeling to return bone to original shape
