Types Of Beds Flashcards
Turning frame (Stryker Wedge frame)
A. Can be turned supine to prone in horizontal plane
B. good for continuous maintenance of skeletal cervical traction and/ or immobilization after spinal fracture
C. Also allows for Trenedelenberg’s position (head lower than feet)
Standard adjustable
Most common hospital bed; side rails, controls for bed position, allows for Fowlers position (hips and knees flexed)
Air fluidized support bed (Clinitron)
A. Heated and pressurized air flows to suspend patient
B. indicated for patients with skin breakdown or potential skin lesions
C. Reduces friction and pressure on patients skin
Posttrauma mobility beds (Keane, Roto-Rest)
A. Indicated for patients with restricted respiratory function, advanced or multiple pressure ulcers, or stabilization after trauma or neurological events
B. constant side-to-side motion is provided, with limited friction or shear forces involved in turning a patient in a standard bed
Low air loss therapy bed
A. Composed of segmented and separated air bladders, with pressure controlled by the patients weight
B. indicated for patients that will require prolonged immobilization, or patients that are high risk for pressure ulcers
