Low back trauma/discomfort
Pt should be instructed to log roll
Roll from side-lying to supine without rotating spine
Body rolls simultaneously, not segmentally
Avoid lateral flexion, bending, or twisting of spine
Only bend through the hip
Total hip replacement
Cannot flex hip past 90 degrees
Cannot adduct operative leg
Cannot internally rotate operative leg
Spinal cord injury
Protective bracing in place
Avoid distracting, rotating forces to spine
Utilize log roll
If osteoporosis develops: avoid stressing long bones of extremities
Burns
Avoid shearing force to burn or graft site
Instruct pt to elevate body part during transfers
Hemiplegia
Avoid pulling on involved side, especially involved shoulder
Musculature is weak, shoulder is usually painful and susceptible to subluxation or dislocation
