Types and methods of practice Flashcards
1
Q
Describe part practice.
A
- Working on an isolated sub-routine with the aim of perfecting it.
- Used with low organisation skills, and complex skills
- Reduces possibility of overload, helps gain confidence, allows them to make sense of skill
- E.g. Practicing backswing only in tennis serve

Describe whole practice.
A
- Skills taught without being broken down into sub-routines.
- Used with high organisation skills
- Allows kinaesthesis
- E.g. Golf swing

Q
Describe whole-part-whole practice.
A
- Practicing the whole skill, then practicing a sub-routine in isolation, then practicing the whole skill again

6
Q
Describe distributed practice.
A
- Practice with rest intervals included
- Used for continuous skills
- Rest allows for feedback, helps maintain motivation
- E.g. Swimming

Describe fixed practice.
A
- Practice in a stable environment
