Annual registration

Permanent registration
A system that keeps citizens on the voter registration list without their having to reregister every year

Poll tax
In place from 1902 until 1972 in Texas, a tax citizens were required to pay each year between November and January to be eligible to vote the following November
Registered voters
Citizens who have formally gone through the process of getting their names on the voter registration list
Same-day voter registration
Voters are allowed to register on election day; no preregistration before the election is required
Socioeconomic factors
Factors such as income, education, race, and ethnicity that affect voter turnout

The proportion of people who cast ballots in an election

The number of people age 18 and over
