- An X ray finding that suggest lung cancer
- Aged over 40 with unexplained haemoptysis
Aged 40 and over with two of the following symptoms:
- Cough
- Fatigue
- SOB
- Chest pain
- Weight loss
- Appetite loss
Aged 40 and over with any of the following:
- Persistent or recurrent chest infection
- Finger clubbing
- Supraclavicular lymphadenopathy
- Thrombocytosis
What are the symptoms that trigger a two week wait referral for suspected Oesophageal Cancer?
Anyone with dysphagia
aged 55 and over with weight loss and:
- Upper abdominal pain
- reflux
- dyspepsia
Non-urgent referral for:
- Haematemesis
- Aged 55 and over with treatment resistant dyspepsia
What are the symptoms that trigger a two week wait referral for suspected Pancreatic Cancer?
Aged 40 and over with jaundice
Aged 60 and over with weight loss and:
- Diarrhoea
- Back pain
- Abdominal pain
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Constipation
- New onset diabetes
What are the symptoms that trigger a two week wait referral for suspected Gastric Cancer?
Upper abdominal mass, dysphagia or aged over 55 with weight loss and:
- Upper abdominal pain
- Reflux
- Dyspepsia
Non-urgent for haematemesis or aged 55 and over with treatment resistant dyspepsia, abdominal pain, raised platelet count or low Hb
What are the symptoms that trigger a two week wait referral for suspected Gallbladder Cancer?
Upper abdominal mass consistent with gallbladder cancer
What are the symptoms that trigger a two week wait referral for suspected Liver Cancer?
Upper abdominal mass consistent with liver cancer
What are the symptoms that trigger a two week wait referral for suspected Colorectal Cancer?
Aged 40+ with unexplained weight loss and abdominal pain
Aged 50+ with unexplained rectal bleeding
Aged 60+ with iron deficiency anaemia or changes in bowel habit or occult blood in their faeces
Any adult with rectal or abdominal mass
Aged 50+ with rectal bleeding and:
- Abdominal pain
- Change in bowel habit
- Weight loss
- Iron deficiency anaemia
What are the symptoms that trigger a two week wait referral for suspected Anal Cancer?
Any adult with an unexplained anal mass or unexplained anal ulceration
What are the symptoms that trigger a two week wait referral for suspected Breast Cancer?
Aged 30+ with unexplained breast lump with or without pain
Aged 50+ with discharge, retraction or changes in one nipple
Any skin changes suspicious of cancer or aged 30+ with unexplained axillary lump
What are the symptoms that trigger a two week wait referral for suspected Ovarian Cancer?
Any patient with ascites and/or a pelvic mass which is not obviously uterine fibroids
Aged 50+ with persistent abdominal bloating, early satiety, loss of appetite, pelvic or abdominal pain or increased urinary urgency or frequency
Any age with weight loss, fatigue and changes in bowel habit
If CA125 is 35 IU/ml or greater then arrange USS. USS abnormalities then refer.
What are the symptoms that trigger a two week wait referral for suspected Endometrial Cancer?
Aged 55 and over with post-menopausal bleeding
Direct USS should be offered to all women aged 55+ with vaginal discharge and haematuria or thrombocytosis.
Direct uSS for all women aged 55+ with visible haematuria and low Hb, thrombocytosis or high glucose levels.
What are the symptoms that trigger a two week wait referral for suspected Cervical Cancer?
Women if, on examination, the appearance of their cervix is consistent with cervical cancer.
What are the symptoms that trigger a two week wait referral for suspected Vulval Cancer?
Women with an unexplained vulval lump, ulceration or bleeding.
What are the symptoms that trigger a two week wait referral for suspected Vaginal Cancer?
Women with an unexplained palpable mass in or at the entrance to the vagina.
What are the symptoms that trigger a two week wait referral for suspected Prostate Cancer?
Any male which has a malignant suspicion on DRE
Consider a DRE and PSA for any male with LUTS, erectile dysfunction or visible haematuria
Refer any male with elevated PSA in the age-specific range
