A

Raised in myeloma

17
Q

Markers for multiple myeloma?

A

Bence Jones protein
Free light chains
B2 micoglobulin is used to measure the mass of tumour in followup

18
Q

Markers for neuroendocrine tumours? (recognise)

A

Serotonin, 5 hydroxy tryptamine
Catecholemines
Chromogranin A

19
Q

Screening programme for colorectal cancer?

A

FIT testing every 2 years for 60-74 yr olds

20
Q

Disadvantage of CA125 in ovarian screening?

A

Normal in 30% of women with stage 5 ovarian cancer

Raised in many other conditions

But may be useful with pelvic USS in women over 50 with symptoms

Gives a lead time of 4 months for detection of cancer recurrence which is useful

21
Q

Markers useful for non seminomas

A

AFP with HCG

22
Q

Markers useful for seminoma tumours

A

HCG with LDH

23
Q

Which non malignant conditions raise AFP?

A

Cirrhosis, hepatitis, telangiectasia, pregnanct

24
Q

Which marker is used to test for recurrence in colorectal cancer?

A

CEA

Can also be raised in smoking, other tumours, or IBD, pancreatitis and liver disease

25
Q

Which benign conditions can raise CA 19-9?

A

Pneumonia, hepatobiliary disease, renal failure
