Tumors (slides 1-20) Flashcards
Papilloma planocellulare:
-Also called just papilloma or “wart”
-Benign proliferation of epidermis
In the slide you can see:
-Papillas
-Tumor cells are in parenchyma
-Keratinized epithelium
-Non-keratinized epithelium (tumor cells)
-Stroma & adipose tissue

Cystadenoma:
-In mammary gland
-Two types: intraductal and lobular
-Benign
In the slide:
-Cysts with fluid (pseudomucin) inside
-Stroma, cuboidal epithelium

Papillary cystadenoma:
-In the ovary
-Benign
In the slide:
-Stroma with fibrocytes, capillaries, inflammatory cells
-Parenchyma with columnar tumor cells, branches, liquid

Squamous cell carcinoma (keratinizing):
-Most common carcinoma of the skin
-Derived from stratified squamous epithelium
-Malignant
In the slide:
-Stroma with fibrocytes, capillaries, inflammatory cells
-Keratinized pearls
-Islands of neoplastic epithelium (parenchyma)
-Different sized cells and nucleus
Squamous cell carcinoma (keratinizing):

-Malignant
In the slide:
-Stroma with fibrocytes, capillaries, inflammatory cells

Squamous cell carcinoma (non-keratinized):
-Malignant
In the slide:
-Stroma with fibroblasts, collagen, inflammatory cells, capillaries
-Parenchyma: Islands with tumor cells
-Necrosis
Squamous cell carcinoma (non-keratinized):
-Malignant
In the slide:
-Stroma with fibroblasts, collagen, inflammatory cells, capillaries
-Parenchyma: Islands with tumor cells
-Necrosis
Mucinous adenocarcinoma:
-In glandular tissue (slides mammary gland)
-Tumor cells produce large amounts of mucin –> mucin-filled cysts
Mucinous adenocarcinoma:
-In glandular tissue (slides mammary gland)
-Tumor cells produce large amounts of mucin –> mucin-filled cysts
Malignant melanoma:
-Occur in many forms and locations
-Dark brown melanin
Glioma:
-Most common neoplasm of CNS
-Arise from glial cells
In the slide:
-Tumor cells and normal cells are really similar
-No stroma
-You might see hemorrhages
Neurofibroma:
-From schwann cells and perineural cells
In the slide:
-Cannot see neural tissue/cells
-Fibrocytes with nuclei = tumor cells
Lipoma:
-Benign tumor of adipose tissue
In the slide:
-Stroma
-Parenchyma with adipose cells
-Nuclei are normal, but variation in shape and size of adipocytes
Myxoma:
-Benign mucous cell tumor
-Tumor of the connective tissue that form mucin
In the slide:
-Fibrocytes (tumor cells(myxoid cells)
-Mucous matrix/mucoid matter
Myxoma:
-Benign mucous cell tumor
-Tumor of the connective tissue that form mucin
In the slide:
-Fibrocytes (tumor cells(myxoid cells)
-Mucous matrix/mucoid matter
Fibroma:
-Common benign mesenchymal skin tumor
In the slide:
-Non-distinguished connective tissue (no islands)
-Collagen fibres
-Many fibrocytes (tumor cells)
-Difficut to differentiate stroma and parenchyma
Fibroma:
-Common benign mesenchymal skin tumor
In the slide:
-Non-distinguished connective tissue (no islands)
-Collagen fibres
-Many fibrocytes (tumor cells)
-Difficut to differentiate stroma and parenchyma
Fibrosarcoma:
-Malignant
In the slide:
-More cellular than fibroma, less collagen, more dense
Fibrosarcoma:
-Malignant
In the slide:
-More cellular than fibroma, less collagen, more dense
Myxochondrosarcoma:
-Mixed tumor
-3 parts: myxoma (mucosal), chondroma (cartilage), sarcoma (spindle)
In the slide:
-Only slide which is so colorful
-Can see the three parts
Spindle cell sarcoma:
-Myoepithelial cells of mammary gland
-Can be benign or malignant
In the slide:
-No glandular and tubular differentiation
-Fusiform cells are in bundles running in various directions
-Tumor cells resemble plump fibroblasts
-Very cellular
-Similar to fibrosarcoma but more cellular
