Tumors 3 Flashcards
Unicameral bone cyst: Tue cyst of bone- __ filled cavity lined with __ and __ tissue. MC ages?
fluid
endothelial
fibrous
80% between 3-14 y/o
Unicameral Bone cyst cinical symptoms and tx
- asymptomatic unless pathological fx
- curretage and pack
- good results recently with injection of autogenous bone matrix
Unicameral Bone cyst MC locations
75% in prox femur and prox. humerus
after 17 y/o, calcaneus and pelvis
not common at knee like most other tumors
Unicameral bone cyst x-ray
Geographic mildly expansive no wider than physis sharp zone of transition scllerotic margin "Empty" appearing matrix
Unicameral bone cyst: __ __ sign may be seen if fx’d
Fallen fragment
Fibroxanthoma: Includes 2 similar lesions…
Benign fibrous cortical defect
-smaller, ephemeral lesion that is more a variant of growth than neoplasm
Non-ossifying fibroma
-larger, more clinically significant lesion that may not resolve
*both consist of whorled bundles of CT cells
Benign Fibrous cortical defect: MC sites and appearance
Long bones: metaphyseal/ metadiaphyseal
ovoid, along long axis of bone
most in .5-3 cm range
well-defined
Non Ossifying Fibroma: Similar to BFCD, but…
larger more likely to... -persist involve central bone weaken bone to point of pathological fx
Fibrous Dysplasia: Etiology? Whata re the 3 presentations?
Unknown
Monostotic: MC (75%)
Polyostotic: ~25%
Polyostotic w/ associated endocrine anomaly (rare)
*many cases asymptomatic and incidentaly noted on xray
Fibrous Dysplasia: X ray
Variable
lytic, geographc
mixed, disorganized* appearance of matrix
Bone expansion common with intact cortex
thinned but not destoryed
may path fx no periosteal rxn or soft tissue mass
Aneurysmal Bone cyst (ABC): Histologically a type of __ ___, not a true cyst. MC Ages?
A-V malformation
80% before 20 y/o
ABC: manifestations
Mild pain with hx over m-y
ABC MC sites
80% on long bone metaphysis OR post arch. located in long bones xpansile, geographic can mimic "blowout" lesion tx with curretage/ packing
