TT Suspension Flashcards

1
Q

Atmospheric pressure

Ex: locking liner, hypobaric socks, augmented vacuum systems; elastomeric knee sleeves

A

Indi: whenever clinically feasible
Adv: minimizes pistoning, best proprioception, greatest range of motion
Dis: precise fit, consistent donning necessary, works best with stable RL volume

Q

Anatomic

Ex: supracondylar wedge, with or with Suprapatellar

A

Indication: to increase knee stability, for short RL or ligament laxity
Adv: ease to don and doff, even with limit hand function or vision; supracondylar wedge adds m/l stability; suprapatellar extension limits knee hyperextension
Dis: restricts full knee flexion; suspension pressure is localized

Q

Straps

Ex: cuff; cuff + waist belt; fork strap+ waist belt

A

Indic: RL volume changes anticipated
Adv: amputee adjustable; good auxiliary suspension
Dis: some pistoning; waist belt may be uncomfortable; tight cuff may impair circulation

Q

Hinges

Ex: thigh corset (joint and laser)

A

Ind: damaged knee or RL
Adv: maximum m/l and a/p stability; partial unloading of residual limb
Dis: heavy bulky, awkward to don, allows significant pistoning
