CMP Knees Flashcards
Constant friction (single axis)
Gen. Indications: single speed walking on level surfaces, only if hip control is good or better
Adv: simple, inexpensive, reliable
Disa: fixed cadence, low stability
Stance control (safety)
Gen. Indications: initial px, general debility poor hip control
Adv: improved knee stability
Dis: delayed swing phase—must unload fully to flex and sit
Polycentric
Positive stability, sitting cosmetics
General indications: initial px.; general debility, poor hip control; knee disarticulation or long TF
Adv: excellent knee stability, cosmetics for long amputations
Dis: adds weight and cost, not heavy duty
Manual locking
Indication: last resort
Advan: ultimate knee stability
Dis: abnormal gait, awkward sitting
Fluid controlled: pneumatic, hydraulic
Gen. Indications: able to vary walking speed
Adv: variable cadence; smoothest, most natural gait, sophisticated stability??
Dis: greater weight, cost, maintenance
Hybrid
General ind: for combined functions from two or more classes
Adv: one knee allows multiple functions
Dis: greatest cost and complexity
