TF Suspension Flashcards
Atmospheric pressure
Ex: suction socket with valve; locking liner, hypobaric sock; augmented vacuum
Ind: whenever feasible
And: mini pistoning; best proprioception; greatest range of motion
Dis: precise fit, consistent donning necessary, works best with stable RL volume
Anatomic
Ex: supracondylar wedge for knee disarticulation
Ind: KD, congenital malformations
Adv: good suspension; rotation control
Dis: suspension pressure localized
Straps
Ex: Silesian belt variants; prefabricated elastic suspension belt
Ind: RL volume changes anticipated
Adv: amputee-adjustable; good auxiliary suspension, control rotation
Dis: some pistoning belt may be uncomfortable; donning properly takes skill
Hinges
Ex: pelvic joints and belt
Ind: short RL or weak hip abductors
Adv: max m/l support partial rotational control
Dis: heavy, bulky awkward to don; allows significant pistoning; can be uncomfortable when sitting
