What is a tropical monsoon climate?
A climate which averages over 18 degrees every month and has a period of heavy rainfall involving the seasonal reversal of winds
Give an example of two contries which have a tropical monsoon climate.
Bangladesh and India.
What is the direction of tropical winter winds?
North and northeast winds blowing out from central asia.
What are some characteristics of tropical winter winds?
Very dry, they cause a winter drought.
What is the direction of the tropical summer winds?
Reverse of winter, blowing from the southwest.
What are some characteristics of tropical summer winds?
They are hot and wet.
What causes intense rainfall in the tropical monsoon climates?
Hot and wet winds brought up by the equatorial area of the Indian Ocean.
What global transport system increases the uplift of hot and wet winds in Asia?
Convection currents caused by the hot land surface.

They are flat with low mud walls.

They gain from the large number of people working rural areas of India.
What does a weak monsoon rains result in?
Crop failure.
How does a weak monsoon rain period affect the economy?
Crop failure causes lower production/ lower supply which can result in higher prices, low industrial output and other issues.
What has the Indian government been pushing to be done?
Increase the amount of land that is irrigated.
How much of cultivated land is irrigated in India?
Less than half.
