Big Ideas - The Trinity

A

God is one in substance but 3 in person

  • There is only ONE God (Isaiah 46:9-10, Isaiah 45:22, 1 Timothy 2:5 - for there is one God, Shema)
  • He exists in 3 Persons (Matthew 28:19, 1 Peter 1:2)
  • All three are fully God
  1. Jesus is God (John 10:30, John 14:9, John 8:58)
  2. HS is God (Acts 5: 3-4)
  3. FG is God (1 Peter 1:2 God the Father knew you and chose you long ago)
  • not just one God different roles because we see them interacting (Genesis 1:26-27, Matthew 3:16-17)

Q

Why is the Trinity important?

A

Without the Trinity, there would be no salvation

Trinity - God is the only God, Jesus is LORD.

1 Cor. 15:17 if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins. Paul knew that if Jesus was not raised from the dead, no salvation, because it was the sign that he is the Son of God.

Imp because it declares that Jesus, who claimed to divine right to save us and create us anew, in fact HAS that right, and we truly ARE saved because of him. (Romans 1:4)

Sets us apart from other religions - Distinct to Christianity (Hinduism, Buddhism many gods)

Trinity is a model for us - because we are created in the image of God. Helps us understand who God is, and who we are. Members of the Goddhead do everything out of love for each other. Each member has a different role, but they are equal. Love each other and work together.
