A body established to settle certain types of dispute
It’s cheaper than the courts, quicker than the courts, informal and they have experts
Advantages of tribunals:
Cheapness
Quick hearings
Informality
Expertise
Disadvantages of tribunals:
Lack of funding
More formal than ADR
Delays
Alternative dispute resolution (ADR):
Negotiation, mediation, conciliation, arbitration
Can resolve disputes between consumers and traders that don’t involve the courts
Advantages of ADR:
N - cheap
M - no unwanted press/publicity
C - cheap
Disadvantages of ADR:
N - expensive if lawyers get involved
M - no guarantee
C - no guarantee
Online dispute resolution (ODR):
Settling disputes online and through IT
Advantages of ODR:
Doesn’t cost loads of money
Can do it anywhere

Online court stages:
1: identifying issues + document evidence
2: conciliation + case management
3: if the case isn’t resolved by stage 2 a judge will intervene
