Treaty of waitangi is a framework that ensures the health of Maori people is prioritised and addressed to esnure equity and to gain fair health outcomes.
The framework includes 3 articles that are included in health promotion which range from governmental decisions to community and individual components.
Article 1- Kawanatanga (Governance) - Partnership
Ensures partnership between the crown and iwi and the crown and iwi work in equal parts to make decisions.
Article 2-
Tino rangatiratanga (Self determination)- Participation
Ensure Maori people have the right to independance and autonomy with health decisions.
Article 3-
Oretitanga (Equity) -Active Protection
Ensures protection for equal rights of Maori people.

It ensures Iwi and the Maori community be co-designers of any health promotion or programme.
