Treatments for CVD Flashcards
1
Q
What are anti-hypertensives?
A
Include beta blockers and vasodilators. It reduces bp so there’s less damage to artery walls. This reduces risks of atheroma. They include diuretics to reduce sodium that’s reabsorbed in the blood, overall reduces blood volume
2
Q
What are statins?
A
Reduce cholesterol in the blood by reducing LDL produced inside the liver, this reduces atheroma formation
3
Q
What are anticoagulants (warfarin)?
A
Reduces blood clotting which means clots are less likely to form at sites of damage in artery walls
4
Q
What are platelet inhibitory drugs?
A
They are a type of anticoagulants, work by preventing platelets clumping together
