Treating conditions - Normal skin
Works well with most products
No additional treatment adaptations
Treating conditions - Oily skin
Avoid heavy, oil based products - these will clog pores, increase sebum products & potentially cause irritation
Treating conditions - Dry skin
Focus on exfoliation, particularly with dry, flakey areas
Add moisture using moisturisers and specialised treatments (warm mitts, paraffin, warm oil)
Treating conditions - Sensitive skin
Use mild, gentle, water based products
Avoid use of hard exfoliants as these could irritate the skin
Treating conditions - dry brittle nails
Utilise moisturising products & specialised treatments
Cuticle oil at end of treatment
Treating conditions - Dry cuticles
Use cuticle oil to increase nourishment
Advise clients todo the same daily
Effleurage
Stroking movement used to begin and end massage
Direction of stroking should be towards the heart
Used to improve circulation, has soothing effect and relaxes muscles
Petrissage
Kneading movements with deep pressure applied. Work seeping in to tissues and work to relax the muscles
Frictions
Deep rubbing movements using the finger or thumb pads, used to create heat within the tissues, increase circulation and lymph flow. Loosens tissues and stimulate blood flow & effective at reducing inflamed areas and joints
Tapotement
Rhythmic and fast type of massage performed using sides of hands or cupped hands.
Increases the local blood circulation, this helps warm skin and soften underlying tissue
