Poorly handed waste chemicals - continue to spread fumes, therefore potential fire hazard
Tripping hazards - trailing wires, loose floor tiles, spillages
What and why do we use PPE
Personal Protective Equipment used to be safe from harm
What hazards need to be reported further?
Faulty electrical sockets and equipment
Chemical hazards - inhalation/indigestion/direct skin&eye contact
Why does a salon need to remain hygienic?
To prevent cross infection
What methods are used to maintain hygiene in the salon?
Sanitise - hot soapy water
Disinfect -
Sterilise -
Autoclave sterilisation
Suitable for good quality metal tools
Steam produced from water reservoir in autoclave and contained under pressure @ 121-134 degrees
15-20 mins to complete
Most effective method
Glass Bead Sterilisation
Electrically heated unit containing glass beads
Only suitable for small items
10-15 secs to sterilise (adding items will reduce heat and timing restart)
Temp consistent 30-60 mins before use
UV Sterilisation
Limited effectiveness - sometimes called sanitation
Only sterilised the surface, items need to be turned
15 mins per side
Sterilisation procedure
Select appropriate method Clean w warm water and detergent Dry w clean, disposable towel Sterilise Place in to clean, covered container w surgical spirit
Objects that cannot be sterilised placed in jar of chemical disinfectant
