4 P’s of CBT
A
- Predisposing Factors: those that put someone at risk of developing a mental health problem. Those include: genetics, life events, temperament
- Precipitating Factors: specific events/triggers to the current problem
- Perpetuating Factors: those that maintain the current problem once it has been established
- Protective Factors: those factors that are strengths or reduce the severity of the problem

- Determine long-term and short-term goals for the client

CBT Formulation: Thoughts and Strategies
A
- Automatic negative thoughts: actual images or thoughts that go through the person’s mind
- Intermediate beliefs/assumptions: these are if, then statements (I must do blank to achieve blank)
- Core Beliefs: Statements about self or world. These are global, rigid, and overgeneralized

Stages of CBT Treatment
A
- Stage 1: Psychoeducation (1-3 weeks)
- Stage 2: Cognitive restructuring (4-12)
- Behavioral activation, fear hierarchy, exposure therapy, identifying emotions
- Homework
- Can incorporate other treatment modalities (DBT skills, Mindfulness, ACT)
- Stage 3: Termination and Relapse Prevention
- Consolidation of learning, review progress, discuss possibility of booster sessions.
