Traumatic injuries Flashcards
what can cause spinal cord injuries?
fractures, tearing of ligaments, herniation in the intervertebral discs.
Spinal cord injury management?
control c-spine!, PPV prn, immobilize, ABC,
30 mins on a spinal board can ….
can lead to pressure sores that could last a lifetime
the highest points of pressure on the back are at the _______ and ______?
Sacrum and the thorax
how to tx a severe head injury?
GCS <10= severe, asses for other intoxicants/hypoxia/hypotension, asses pupils, amnesia, motor response, breathing patterns ( chyenne strokes), aggresively tx hypotension if occurs, keep ETCO2 at (33-35mmhg) to low ICP, O2 prn, BGL
a primary brain injury
damage that occurs on first impact causing damage to neuronal tissue as a result from acceleration & deccaeleration.
General trauma standard?
- determine mechanism + its severity
- c-spine
- primary survey
- extrication immediately if scene safety issues or primary identifies issues with pt
- RTS immediately after primary
- estimate blood loss if applicable
- stabalize impaled objects prn only remove if they are compressing the airway/interfering w CPR
8.asses injury site for CLAPS & TICS - for suspected multi/major trauma perform a complete secondary survey of all body systems
how to splint an extremity fracture?
check for CSM distal to the injury, Splint using the SAM or Speed splint. wrap with cling, use a sling if it is an arm, immobilize the injury area.
