Trauma-Types Of Dental Trauma Flashcards
What are the hard tissue injuries?
Enamel infraction Enamel fracture Enamel dentine fracture Complicated crown fracture Uncomplicated crown-root fracture Complicated crown root fracture Root fracture
What groups of injuries are there in trauma?
Had tissues and pulp
Periodontal tissues
Supporting bone
Gingiva and oral mucosa
What is an enamel infraction ?
This is an incomplete fracture in enamel with no loss of tooth substance
What is an enamel fracture?
This is when tooth tissue loss is confined to enamel only
What is an enamel-dentine fracture?
Fracture of both enamel and dentine
What is a complicated crown fracture?
Fracture of enamel dentine and exposing the pulp
What is an uncomplicated crown root fracture?
Fracture of enamel dentine and cementum but does not involve the pulp
What is a root fracture?
Fracture involving dentine cementum and pulp
Classified into apical middle and coronal third
What are the injuries to the periodontal tissues?
Concussion Subluxation Extrusive luxation Lateral luxation Intrusive luxation Avulsion
What is concussion?
No abnormal loosening or displacement but TTP
Maybe some bleeding around the gingival margin
What is subluxation?
Abnormal loosening but no displacement
What is extrusive luxation?
Partial dislodgement of tooth from socket
What is lateral luxation?
Displace other than axially into alveolar bone with communition or fracture of bone
What is intrusive luxation?
Displacement into the bone with communition or fracture of alveolar bone
What is Avulsion?
Completely displaced out of socket
What injuries can occur to the bone?
Communition of mand or max alveolar socket wall
Fracture of mand or max alveolar socket wall
Fracture of man or max
What is Communition of mand or max alveolar socket wall?
Crushing and compression of the alveolar socket
What is Fracture of mand or max alveolar socket wall?
Fracture confined to facial and lingual/Palatal socket wall
What is Fracture of man or max
May or May not involve socket
What 4 soft tissue injuries are there?
Laceration: wound due to tear
Contusion: bruise with no tear
Abrasion: superficial wound caused by rubbing or scraping
Deglovimg: bone denuded of overlying skin and mucosa
