Penetrating Trauma
Injury caused by an object breaking the skin and entering the body
Blunt trauma
Injury caused by the collision of an object with the body in which the object does not enter the body
Epidemiology
The study of disease to determine its prevalence, course, and seriousness
Harddon Matrix
A framework for classifying factors associated with injury, death, or events that may cause injury or death. The matrix is used to identify factors that can be modified and interventions that can be taken to prevent or reduce the severity of such events

The processes and forces that cause trauma
Index of suspicion
The anticipation of injury to a body region, organ, or strut uv based on analysis of the mechanism of injury.
Golden period
The 60 minute period after a severe injury; it is the maximum acceptable time between the injury and iniation of surgery for the seriously injured trauma patient
Trauma triage criteria
Guidelines to aid prehospital personnel in determining which trauma patients require urgent transportation to a trauma center
Trauma registry
A data retrieval system for trauma patient information, which is used to evaluate and improve the trauma system
