what is the difference between PTSD and acute stress disorder?
duration, PTSD (more than 1 month) and acute stress disorder (3 days - 1 month)
What is the criteria for adjustment disorders?
A. Development of symptoms in response to a stressor occurring within 3 MONTHS of the onset of the stressor
B. Symptoms are clinically significant
C. The disturbance is not an exacerbation of a preexisting mental disorder and does not meet the criteria for another mental disorder
D. The symptoms do not represent normal bereavement and not better explained by prolonged grief disorder
E. Once the stressor is terminated, the symptoms do not persist for more than an additional 6 months
What is the criteria for prolonged grief disorder?
A. death of a loved one (12 months ago for adults but 6 months ago for children and adolescents)
B. intense yearning and/or preoccupied with memories of deceased person for at least 1 month

1. Identity disruption since the death
2. Marked sense of disbelief about the death
3. Avoidance of reminders of death
4. Intense emotional pain
5. Difficulty reintegrating into one’s relationships and activities after the death
6. Emotional numbness
7. Feeling that life is meaningless as a result of the death
8. Intense loneliness as a result of the death
D. Symptoms cause clinically significant distress
E. Duration and severity of bereavement reaction exceed social, cultural, and religious norms
