What is the definition of shock?
failure to properly perfuse and oxygenate vital organs
What is saline used for in trauma?
as a bridge, usually only give blood or nothing as saline does not carry O2 or help blood clot
Which 3 blood tests are the most important in trauma?
BG, Cross match, Clotting
What are two causes of trauma that could cause B and C shock simultaneously?
massive haemothorax, tension pneumothorax
How would you treat a tension pneumothorax?
thoracocentesis, thoracotomy, chest drain
What is a pneumonic for remembering causes of life threatening injury?
ATOM FC - airway obstruction, tension pneumothorax, open pneumothorax, massive haemothorax, flail chest, cardiac tamponade
Why would splenic haemorrhage not cause peritonitis?
the spleen is encapsulated
