Transversopinales Flashcards
Multifidus
Origin: posterior iliac spine of ilium, posterior sacrum, sacroiliac ligament, aponeurosis of the erector spinae, transverse processes of T1-T3, articular processes of C4-C7, and mammillary processes of lumbar vertebrae
Insertion: spinous processes of the vertebrae 2-4 segments superior to the origin
Innervation: posterior rami of the spinal nerve
Action: stabilize and unilaterally rotate contralaterally
Semispinalis
Origin: transverse processes of C4-T10
Insertion: occipital bone and spinous processes of upper thoracic and cervical vertebrae 4-6 segments superior to origin
Innervation: posterior rami of the spinal nerve
Action: rotate contralaterally and extend the head and vertebral column
Rotatores
Origin: transverse processes of vertebrae
Insertion: junction of lamina and transverse process or spinous process 1-2 segments superior to origin
Innervation: posterior rami of spinal nerve
Action: proprioception, stabilize, and assist with extension and rotation
