Time of the life in the car

What factors need to be considered when forcing entry to a vehicle for rescue of life (non rcr, locked in)

A

Welfare of the life takes precedence over the damage of the vehicle
Initial point of entry needs to be as far away as possible from the pet/child

  • the key cannot be located
  • there is any indication of physical or mental distress in the child as the Queensland Ambulance Service should attend; and
  • the vehicle has insufficient ventilation.

If there are no adverse signs of the child/ pet locked in vehicle, what can we do for assisted entry?

A

(RACQ) Coordinator of Road Side Services can
provide expert mechanical services (free of charge) and unlock the vehicle without causing damage.
Firecom have 24-hour contact availability with the RACQ Service. Estimated times of
attendance by the service can be provided by mobile radio contact.

Explain the victim search protocol for RCR

A

Establish inner and outer circles
(inner circle is extrication/ working area)
Outer circle is support/ victim removed area

Primary search phase-
search perimter of the outer circle and identify people who may have been ejected, wondered off, absconded. Use QPS to do this
Notify Firecom

Secondary Search Phase
When extrication of all entrapped persons has been completed, secondary search begins
