Transport of Substances through Cell Membranes Flashcards
Using another source of energy other than ATP
Secondary Active Transport
Example of Secondary Active Transport:
-Glucose wants to come into cell. Glucose uses sodium to do this (sodium as energy). Glucose and sodium coming into cell.
This occurs in?
Sodium Co-transport of Glucose
Kidney and small intestines
Pumping sodium ion into cell to get calcium or hydrogen ions out of cell.
-Occurs in the kidney (proximal convoluted tubule). When we want to reabsorb bicarb, we pump a hydrogen out, it bonds to bicarb and produces water and carbon dioxide. Sodium comes in and that is where we get the energy to kick that hydrogen out.
Sodium Counter-transport of Calcium and Hydrogen Ions
Examples of Transport:
- Carries one thing in one direction?
- Carries 2 things in same direction?
- Carries 2 things in opposite directions?
- Uniport
- Symport
- Antiport
Osmotic force at body temperature?
