Role of xylem in plants
-Xylem made of many hallow dead cells joined end to end
-End walls of cells have disappeared so long open tube formed
-Xylem vessel run from root of plant right up through stem,branch out into every leaf
-Xylem vessel contain no cytoplasm no nucleus
-Walls made of celluose and lignin
How water absorbed by root hair cell
water moves by osmosis from high water potential in soil to low water potential in root hair cells through semi permeable membrane
What is transpiration
Loss of water from leaves by evaproution of water at surface of mesophyll cells followed by loss of water vapor through stomata by diffusion
What is transpiration Stream
Water from xylem vessels in leaf will travel to cells by osmosis to replace it
Importance of Transpiration
√Constant uptake and transport of mineral ionse
√Provide water to keep cells turgid to support upward growth of plant
√Provide water to photosynthesize cells in leaves to conduct photosynthesis
√Keep leaves cool by evaporative cooling
Explain condition affect transpiration rate
Transpiration increases as increasing temperature
Light Intensity increase so transpiration increase
Humidity higher so less watery will evaporate from leaves
Wind speed increase so transpiration increase
Role of phloem vessel in plants
Translocation: movment of sucrose and amino acids in phloem from regions of production to region of storage
Phleom: transport sucrose and ammino acid up and down the plant according to seasonal changes in summer and spring from leaves to all plant parts while in winter from root to all plant parts
What is vascular bundles
Group of specialized tissues the xylem and phloem that transport water dissolved salts and food throghout plant
