Nutrition In Plants Flashcards
What mean phatoautrophic
Plants make their owners nutrition using carbon dioxide and water using energy from sunlight
Balanced equation of photosynthesis
6co2+6h2o=c6h12o6+6o2
Word equation of photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide+water=glucose+oxygen
Importance of glucose for plants
Respiration to release energy
Store glucose as starch
Turned into celluose to make cell
Used to make fats,oils, proteins
Importance of waxy cuctile
It reduces water lose from the leaves
It acts as a barrier to the entery of disease causing microorganisms as bacteria and fungi
Upper epidermis
They are thin and transpert to allow light to pentrate
Plaside mesophyll layer
Elongated cells carrying large number of chloroplasts
Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll pigments to absorb light
The plaside cells are perpendicular to the upper epidermis to obtain maximum light intensity
Spongy mesophyll
They contain chloroplasts, but not as many as in palisade cells
Cells are loosely packed having air gaps in between which provide large surface area for gas exchange
Lower epidermis
Contains stomata to allow diffusion of gases during photosynthesis and respiration
Contains Guard cells which control opening and closure of the stomata
