Q

What is the need for a transport system in multicellular animals

A
  • metabolic demands of most multicellular animals is high
  • surface area to volume ratio is too big. The surface area is too small to maintain the demand. The diffusion distance is too big
  • molecules such as hormones or enzymes may be made in one place but needed in another
  • food will be digested in one system but the nutrients may be needed in another
  • waste products of metabolism need to be removed from the cells and transported to the excretory organs
