Transport In Animals Flashcards
1
Q
What is the need for a transport system in multicellular animals
A
- metabolic demands of most multicellular animals is high
- surface area to volume ratio is too big. The surface area is too small to maintain the demand. The diffusion distance is too big
- molecules such as hormones or enzymes may be made in one place but needed in another
- food will be digested in one system but the nutrients may be needed in another
- waste products of metabolism need to be removed from the cells and transported to the excretory organs

Q
What are the features that most circulatory systems have in common
A
- they have liquid transport medium that circulates around the system (blood)
