Transport Flashcards
Describe facilitated diffusion
Down a concentrated gradient
Involves carrier or channel protein
Does not require ATP
Describe active transport
Use of carrier proteins
Molecules move against concentration gradient so process requires ATP
Roots dipped in chloride ions. Respiratory inhibitor on plant A. Explain difference in results
Plant A- Diffusion only. Rate levels off as cells reach equilibrium
Plant B- Diffusion and active transport
No equilibrium reached
Rate slows as fewer chloride ions in external solution
Describe the role of haemoglobin in supplying oxygen to the tissues of the body
Oxyhemoglobin formed
Oxygen unloaded
What does it mean if O2 curve shifted to the right?
Haemoglobin has lower affinity for oxygen
Therefore oxygen released quicker
For respiration
