Q

what are the similarities/differences of osmosis and diffusion?

A

both dont require energy, both are the movement of substances from a high to a low concentration, osmosis is only for water while diffusion is for solutes.

Q

what is the difference between diffusion and facilitated diffusion?

A

facilitated diffusion is for larger molecules that cannot move across the cell membrane by themselves, so they need special channels and proteins to get around.

Q

why does active transport requires energy in the form of ATP?

A

because it moves molecules from an area of lower concentration to an area of higher concentration, which needs energy to happen since it goes against the natural flow

Q

how do cells achieve active transport?

A

by using specialised transport proteins in the cell membrane that require energy to move substances against their concentration gradient.

Q

what is endocytosis?

A

it’s when a cell takes in substances from the outside by wrapping its membrane around them to form a sac that brings the substances inside

Q

what are the differences of endocytosis and exocytosis?

A

endocytosis moves substances into the cell
exocytosis moves substances OUT of the cell
endocytosis is used for nutrient consumption, exocytosis is used for waste removal, endocytosis overtakes substances from the external environment, exocytosis releases substances that have been internally produced/stored in the cell.

Q

what are the differences between active and passive transport?

A

passive transport moves materials from high to low concentration while active transport moves them from low to high concentration.

9
Q

why does passive transport does not require energy but active transport does?

A

because passive transport moves molecules from high to low concentration naturally. Active transport needs energy because it moves molecules from low to high concentration, which doesn’t happen on it’s own.

Q

what is exocytosis?

A

the process where the cell releases materials by packaging them in a sac that fuses with the cell membrane, allowing the contents to exit the cell.

Q

what are the similarities of endocytosis and exocytosis?

A

both processes include the cell membrane
both use sacs to transport materials
both require energy (ATP) to occur
cellular transport
both are import for cell function
