Transpiration system Flashcards
What is the stomata?
Its the whole where gaseous exchange happen
Where is the stomata?
They are mostly on the underside of epidermis of leaves
What opens and closes the stomata?
the guard cells
When do guard cells open the stomata?
When they are full of water
When do guard cells close the stomata?
when there is no water to keep the water in so it cannot diffuse out
What diffuses into the plant cell?
carbon dioxide
What diffuses out of a plant cell?
oxygen and water vapour
what is transporation?
the movement of water in a plant
What are the steps of transpiration?
The water will enter in the roots by osmosis
The water moves up the stem unto the leaves and diffuses into the spongy mesophyll
The water is lost from the leaf by evaporation through open stomata
How does increased light intensity affect the rate of transpiration?
the stomata close without sun and are open when there is sun
how does high humidity effect the rate of transpiration
it maintains a high concentration around the plant
how does high temperature effect the rate of transpiration?
particles take more energy which increase the rate of diffusion
how does wind/air movement effect the rate of transpiration?
maintains a low concentration gradient around the leaf
