Respiration and exercise Flashcards
what is areobic respiration?
the breakdown of glucose to transfer energy glucose is oxidised happens in the mitochondria it is efficient it is exothermic
Why do we need respiration?
muscle contractions
build larger molecules from smaller ones (growth and repair)
temperature regulation in birds and mamals
What is your internal body temperature?
37 degrees
what happens during intense exercise?
the incomplete breakdown of glucose
less energy transfered as anareobic respiration but it is quicker
anerobic respiration over time will cause muscle fatigue but is great emergence
causes oxygen debt
What happens after intense exercise?
the amount of extra oxygen your body needs to remove lactic acids
oxygen turns lactic acid into carbon dioxide and water
keep breathing hard and heart rate stays high
lactic acid is also broken down to glucose in the liver
how does yeast respire?
it ferments
what is the respire equation for yeast?
glucose = ethonal + carbon dioxide
