Translation Flashcards
What is Step 1?
Start codon is AUG (Methionine). 40S subunit with Met-tRNA (5’CAU anticodon) along with initiation factors bind at 5’ Cap.
What is Step 2?
The 40S subunit moves along (ATP Hydrolysis)
What is Step 3?
The 60S subunit binds to the 40S subunit
What is Step 4?
P site of Ribosome holds the met-tRNA and the A site holds the next aminoacyl-tRNA which binds to the complementary mRNA codon
What is Step 5?
A peptide bond forms between amino acids (which are now both held in the A site)
What is Step 6?
Translocation occurs
What is Step 7?
Now the A site is empty, aminoacyl-tRNA can bind to the next codon as ribosome moves along. The process repeats.
What is the final step?
Termination when stop codon is reached and the final tRNA detaches
