Peroxisomal Targeting Flashcards
1
Q
What is the intrinsic signal in the protein?
A
Serine-Lysine-Leucine (SKL/Peroxisome targeting sequence on C-terminus normally)
2
Q
What is the receptor that recognises the signal?
A
PTS recognised by Pex5 Receptor. Pex5 binds to cargo protein in the cytoplasm.
Note, the receptor is recycled
3
Q
What is the translocation machinery?
A
13 Pex Proteins make up transport channel across peroxisomal membrane. This binds to the Pex-5-cargo complex.
4
Q
What provides the energy to transfer the protein to its new place?
A
ATP hydrolysis allows recycling of PTS receptor
5
Q
What are some syndromes that can occur if peroxisomal targeting malfunctions?
A
Zellweger syndrome
Rhizomelic Chondrodysplasia Punctata
