Q

What are ribosomes composed of?

A

One large and one small subunit. They form rRNA which is importing of maintaining structure stability of the protein synthesis sequence.

Q

What is tRNA?

A

It is composed of a strand of RNA that is folded in a way the anticodon is at the end of the molecule.

Q

What is the process of translation?

A

1)mRNA binds to a small subunit of a ribosome at its start codon
2)tRNA with complementary anticodon binds to mRNA start codon
3)another tRNA carrying the corresponding amino acid binds to next codon on mRNA
4)the first amino acid is transferred to the amino acid on the second tRNA by the formation of a peptide bond- this is catalysed by the ribosome
5)ribosome moves along mRNA releasing the first tRNA. Second become the first
6) stage 3-5 repeated with an amino acid getting added each time. Process repeats until stop codon is reached and polypeptide is released.
