Translation Flashcards
Describe the structure of tRNA
Sections of tRNA sequence of complimentary and so form weak hydrogen bonds which result in a clover like structure
What is step one of translation?
A ribosome binds to the mRNA at the AUG start codon
What is STEP2 of translation?
The genetic code on the mRNA is ready in groups of three letters called codons
What is step three of translation?
TRNA molecules have specific anti codon for each of the 20 amino acids
Step four of translation
The complimentary anti codon is attracted to the first codon on the mRNA and forms, weak hydrogen bonds
What is step five of translation?
The secondary codon on mRNA also attracts its complimentary anti codon on tRNA
What is step six of translation?
A condensation reaction forms peptide bonds between the adjacent amino acids
What is step seven of translation?
The first tRNA molecule becomes detached from its amino acid
Step eight of translation
The ribosome moves along the mRNA molecule
Step nine of translation
The polypeptide chain gradually grows until the ribosome reaches a stop codon and releases the mRNA
Step 10 of translation
The polypeptide chain can then fold into a unique 3-D confirmation
