Chromosome Mutations Flashcards
1
Q
What is non-disjunction
A
Where the chromosomes of chromatids do not split equally during anaphase, resulting in gametes and zygotes being formed with the incorrect number of chromosomes
2
Q
What are the two types of non-disjunction
A
-Polyploidy
-aneuploidy
3
Q
What is polyploidy
A
-Fatal in humans as the zygote cannot successfully develop into a foetus but it occurs frequently in plants
-In polyploidy every chromosome is affected and so you have an extra copy of every chromosome
