translation Flashcards
1
Q
Goal
A
mRNA to poly peptide chain to protein
2
Q
where?
A
cytoplasm
3
Q
tRNA
A
- anticodon thats complementary and antiparallel to mRNA
- goes in 3 to 5 direction
- 3rd base is often INOSINE (wobble effect)
4
Q
Ribosome
A
- small unit attaches to mRNA
- large unit has A P and E site for tRNA
5
Q
initiation
A
- 5’ cap of mRNA binds to small ribosome unit
- rRNA moves down mRNA until start codon
- tRNA with comp. anticodon binds in P spot
- big subunit assembles to rRNA
6
Q
elongation
A
- tRNA binds at A site
- A site and P site amino acid bind tgth to start poly peptide chain at A site
- P site empty now so ribo moves one down (5 to 3)
- empty tRNA exits through E
- ribo continues to move and codes for AA chain
7
Q
termination
A
- stop codon is reached at A SITE and ribo dissasembles
- AA chain is released
