TRANSITIONAL EPITHELIUM AND CELL JUNCTION Flashcards
What is transitional epithelium ?
Multilayered of which the inner most layer rest upon connective tissue not on BM.
What is transitional epithelium also known as and why ?
Transitional epithelium is also known as UROTHELIUM because it is found in the inner lining of ureter and urinary bladder.
What is cell junction?
It holds the epithelial cells together.
Name the types of cell junction.
- Tight junction
- Gap junction
- Adhering junction
- Interdigitation
- Desmosomes
- Hemidesmosomes
What is tight junction ?
Plasma membrane of adjacent cell tightly held together “to prevent leaking” of the substances across them.
What is gap junction ?
Cytoplasm of the cell are interconnected by the cytoplasmic bridge which allows “rapid transfer of the ions , small molecules and sometime big molecules”
What is adhering junction ?
Provide the cementing effect and keeps the neighboring cell together.
What is interdigitation ?
It is a finger like structure
It helps in increasing the surface area.
What is desmosomes ?
They are also known as MACULA ADHERENS
Button like junction formed between two cells.
What is hemidesmosomes ?
Also known as SINGLE SIDED DESMOSOEMES
They are the button like structure present between the epithelial cells and basal lamina.
Tight junction is also known as ?
ZONULA OCCULODENS
