EPITHELIAL TISSUE Flashcards
Who gave the term epithilial tissue ?
RUYSCH
What is meaning of epithelial tissue
It means the tissue which grows upon another tissue(connective tissue).
What are the main feature of epithelial tissue ?
- It forms the protecting covering of outer and inner surfaces (facing towards fluid) of various organs.
- It is avascular.
- Cells are compactly packed with little intracellular matrix and arranged in layer on the non-cellular basement membrane.
Name the two layers of basement membrane.
- basal lamina
2. fibrous or reticular lamina
Explain about basal lamina ?
It is the upper thin layer of mucopolysaccharide and glycoprotein , secreted by epithelial cell.
Explain about fibrous or reticular lamina ?
It is the lower thick layer of collagen fiber and reticular fiber of connective tissue supplied by “blood vessels- which provide nutrients to epithelial tissue by simple diffusion.
Name the two classification of epithelial tissue on the basis of no. of layer present.
- Simple epithelium (single layered)
- present in the lining of the ducts , body cavities and tubes. - Compound epithelium (multi layered)
- present in the skin
The inner most layer of the compound epithelium which rest upon connective tissue is known as ?
STRATUM GERMINETIVUM (meiotically produced new layer)
What is the general function of simple epithelium ?
Diffusion , secretion , absorption etc.
What is the general function of compound epithelium ?
Protection against mechanical and chemical stresses.
name the types of simple epithelium.
- simple squamous epithelium
- simple cuboidal epithelium
- simple columnar epithelium
- ciliated epithelium
- pseudo stratified epithelium
- specialized epithelium
- neuro sensory epithelium
- glandular epithelium
