what is TIA?
a temporary blockage of the part of the brain, usually by a thrombus
symptoms last for <24 hour
what are the symptoms of TIA?
same as stroke
Loss of Speech
Loss of Sensation
Loss of Vision
Loss of Co-ordination
Loss of Power
Loss of Consciousness
Headache
Vomiting
Neck Stiffness
Photophobia
what are the 3 signs of TIA?
Carotid Bruit Heart murmur; Atrial Fibrillation Raised Blood Pressure
what 6 investigations are used to diagnose TIA?
CT
MRI
CXR
ECG
Bloods - FBC, U&E, EST, Glucose, Lipids
Carotid Doppler
what treatment is used?
Control Risk Factors = Hypertension, Hyperlipidaemia, Diabetes Mellitus
Stop Smoking
Antiplatelets Drugs = Clopidogrel
Warfarin
Carotid Endocartectomy
