How are transgender inmates booked?
They will be booked in accordance with their current identification, Either from their ID or self-reported sex.
If an inmates self recorded sex differs from their ID what is done?
They will remain booked under their stated sex, but be placed in a clinic cell until further information can be gathered by counseling or the medical staff. An AKA will be entered into the AFIS file.
The shift sergeant must be notified.
How are custody searches (pat downs)handled with transgender inmates?
Sergeants must be notified, an officer if each gender must be present, the pat down must be documented in the inmates computer file.
How do you handle a strip search of a transgendered Inmate?
The inmate must be asked as to their gender preference of the searching officer. If the inmates does not show a preference and the deputy cannot determine what sex the inmate is, A deputy of both sexes shall be present during the search. Documentation must be made of the inmates lack of choice in a searching officer sex.
When are transgendered inmates classified?
As soon as possible, if the sex can be determined
Where are inmates house if we are unable to determine their sex?
Transgendered inmates whom we cannot determine their sex are housed in protective custody in the clinic a classification interview must be conducted within 72 hours.
