Transformation Model Flashcards
Define Operations
collection of activities (processes) required to deliver a specific output (goods or services) to end or intermediate consumers
Define Operations Management
the design, control and coordination of resources and processes to provide customer an stakeholder value
Define the Transformation Model
- The transformation model describes the main components of any operation
- another name for the input-process-output model
Outline the Transformation Process
- Products and services delivered to customers i.e. output
e. g. lecturettes, lectures, seminars - How outputs are produced and delivered i.e. the processes
e. g. record the videos, uploading them, - What resource is used and consumed to produce the output i.e. the inputs/ transformed resources
e. g. concepts from books, case studies, papers - what resources use the input and operations the processes i.e. transforming resources
e. g. lectures, tutors, website
What are the different levels of the transformation model
Flow between operations = Operation
Flow between processes = Process
Flow between resources = Supply Network
Define Process
-individual set of activities required to fulfil the transformation of information, materials, knowledge and customers into an output within an operation
- an operation can be unpacked to smaller processes
- smaller process can be analysed in terms of inputs activities, outputs etc.
Define Supply network
different operations can be connected with each other to form a supply network
-supply networks describe the entire set of operations that start with the “rawest” of inputs and ends with the “final” output delivered to the end consumer
4 Operations Management Activities
Directing -the overall strategy of operation Designing -operations resources and processes Delivery -planning and control processes Developing -process performance
