Transfer of skills Flashcards
What are the types of transfer of skills?
- positive (optimise)
- negative (limited)
- bilateral
- retroactive
- proactive
what is the transfer of skills?
transfer the influence of one skill on another –> previously learnt skill on a new skill (vice versa)
what is the transfer of learning?
“the influence of the learning and performance of one skill on the learning and performing of another”
what is positive transfer?
when the learning/performance of one skill helps the performance of another skill
e.g. able to throw a ball better w/ a lacrosse skill
what is a negative transfer?
when one skill hinders the performance/learning of another
e.g. using the wrist in badminton/ need a firm wrist in tennis
what is a bilateral transfer?
the transfer of learning from one limb into another
e.g. football - able to dribble and pass w/ both feet
what is transfer appropriate processing?
when cognitive info from one skill to another skill may be similar (negative transfer)
e.g. badminton/tennis - timing, directed over a net etc..

Learning a new skill affects a previously learned skill.
