Transfer of skill Flashcards
Positive
Learning one skill helps the learning of another skill
E.g learning to pop helps them to learn how to spin pass
Negative
Learning one skill hinders the learning of another skill
E.g Learning a forehand in squash might make learning a forehand in tennis harder because of different wrist position
Proactive
A skill learnt in the past affects a skill to be learnt in the future
-Can be pos or neg
Retroactive
Learning a new skill affects a previously learnt skill
-Can be pos or neg
Bilateral
Skill is transferred from one limb to another
E.gRugby players learning to pass off their left hand when they have already learned to pass off their right hand
How to enhance positive transfer and limit negative transfer
- Start with basic skills and develop into complex skills
- Make sure the first skill is learnt well
- Make performers aware when learning a skill, it can help them learn a range of skills
