Tramatic Brain Injuries Flashcards
Effects of concussion
-slight brin injury, no permanent damage
Effects of contusion
-nervous tissue destruction occurs, tissue does not regenerate
Effects of cerebral edema
-swelling from inflammatory response
-may compress and kill brain tissue
Describe cerebro vascular accidents/strokes
-there becomes a restriction of blood flow in a region of the brain and the O2 in blood flow results in death of brain tissue
-loss of certain functions may result in death
What is hemiplegia?
-one sided paralysis
What is aphasis?
-damage to speech center in left hemisphere
What is transischemia attack?
-temporary brain ischemia (restriction of blood flow)
-there are warning signs for more serious CVA/strokes
Describe Alzheimer’s disease
-degenerate brain disease that results in abnormal protein deposits and twisted fibers with neurons. Experience memory loss, irritability, hallucinations, and death
